چکیده
1THE PARTIAL THROMBOPLASTIN TIME test was originally developed by Langdell et al. (1) as a method of following the therapy of hemophulic patients. These investigators found this test to be extremely sensitive to changes in Factor VIII brought about by whole blood or plasma transfusions. Extensive studies of the partial thromboplastin time test (PTT) by Rodman et il. (2) have shown that this test is sensitive to plasma deficiencies of Factor II (prothrombin), Factor V (AcG, labile factor), Factor VIII, Factor IX (PTC), Factor X (Stuart Prower factor), Factor XI (PTA), and Factor XII (Hageman factor). In patients deficient in any of the above factors, prolonged PTT values are obtained. However, the partial thromboplastin test is not sensitive to plasmas that are deficient only in Factor VII (SPCA, Proconvertmn). If a patient’s Factor VII deficient plasma has a concomitant deficiency of any of the other plasma coagulation factors, a prolonged PTT will be found. The purpose of this paper is to report some of the properties of and results obtained with a standardized, stabilized partial thromboplastin reagent (PTR).*

Laboratory Methodologic Approach in Prolonged Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time Test
The pathological activated partial thromboplastin time test is a data that we can find in all clinical laboratories routinely. The hemato-coagulative clinical case here reported aims to point out how the laboratory can provide a correct diagnosis by methodological rational setting and, consequently, carry out an appropriate therapy, or reassure the patient that the pathological data will not ca...
متن کاملComparing the Effect of Continuous and Intermittent Irrigation Techniques on Complications of Arterial Catheter and Partial Thromboplastin Time in Patients Following Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Surgery
Background: Different approaches are available to irrigate the arterial catheter, such as continuous and intermittent techniques. However, there is a disagreement regarding the most appropriate method. Aim: this study aimed to compare the effect of two continuous and intermittent irrigation methods on complications of arterial catheter and partial thromboplastin time (PTT) in patients with coro...
متن کاملEvaluation of Antiphospholipid Antibodies and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time in Women with Adverse Outcome of Pregnancy
Adverse outcome of pregnancy is a potentially dangerous complication of conception and affects 15-20% of pregnancies. According to recent studies increased level of blood antiphospholipids antibodies, if accompanied by predisposing factors, can be an adverse event in human pregnancy. The aim of the present study was to compare the maternal serum levels of anticardiolipin and antiphosphatidyl se...
متن کاملRecommendations for appropriate activated partial thromboplastin time reagent selection and utilization.
The activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) is widely used as a screening coagulation test and for monitoring unfractionated heparin therapy. Various commercial reagents are available, with different performance characteristics, particularly responsiveness to the lupus anticoagulant (LA). Because aPTT reagent selection significantly affects the interpretation of results, we reviewed Colleg...
متن کاملDoes routine repeat testing of critical laboratory values improve their accuracy?
Background: Routine repeat testing of critical laboratory values is very common these days to increase their accuracy and to avoid reporting false or infeasible results. We figure that repeat testing of critical laboratory values has any benefits or not. Methods : We examined 2233 repeated critical laboratory values in 13 different hematology and chemistry tests including: hemoglobin, white...
